Day 8: Short work day

11:00
Jeff the carpenter had to hang some blinds somewhere this morning before getting back to sawing and hammering in our kitchen. He's working on details today, like figuring out how to trim a couple of odd spots, switching the direction of a cabinet door so there won't be bonking going on while an unsuspecting victim is standing at the sink, filling in nail holes with putty, and installing door and drawer handles.

1:00
Yikes! Jeff the carpenter disappeared! I hope he's eating lunch and will come back! Nope, he's gone until next Wednesday to work on another job, so the handles will have to wait until then, doggone it. There is other work that can be done by the electrician in the meantime, so we're waiting to hear when that will happen.

2:00
All the cardboard that was covering the kitchen and dining room floors is vacuumed off and stacked in the garage until next week. Jeff cleaned up a lot of sawdust out there, and Larry did some more of it so we can go in and out of the house without leaving a trail of breadcrumbs. Well, sawdust. I'll let the air settle a little more and then vacuum some more. I hope to get cabinet shelves in place in the next few days and unpack a few tubs and boxes to begin filling the shelves.

3:00
Time for fun with E and O. It was cold and rainy when I picked them up from preschool. Playing outside didn't seem like a great option, so we took a milk and cookie break at the St. Peter Food Co-op.

On our way to E and O's house we stopped at my house so they could see what had been happening in the kitchen. Owen said he'd rather wait until it's all finished to see it, but as soon as he discovered the empty, shelf-less cabinets, a new game was born.

Charlie's Chicken Casserole was on the menu tonight, cooked by its namesake. Thanks so much for inviting us for supper tonight, Charlie and Angie. Everything tasted great. I'm not in any great hurry to get my own kitchen appliances fired up again!

It looks like the little guys had a great time in the new kitchen.
